No-Cost Limited OB Ultrasounds

After you’ve had a positive pregnancy test at our clinic, the next step is to have an ultrasound. Ultrasounds are safe for you and your baby and having one will give you the valuable information you need to make the best decision possible for you.

Why do I need to have an ultrasound?

Regardless of what you’re thinking you may do with your pregnancy, an ultrasound is important. It reveals the gestational age of the fetus, shows the location of the pregnancy, and can let you know whether the pregnancy is viable or not.

It will confirm your pregnancy.

One out of four pregnancies ends naturally in miscarriage. The purpose of an ultrasound is to ensure that you have a viable pregnancy so that you can begin considering the options you have.

It will determine the gestational age.

This is especially important information if you are considering abortion, as the different procedure types available to you are determined by how far along you are.  If you aren’t considering abortion, the gestational age is still important to help set your due date.No matter what options you are considering, this information is vital in making an informed decision.

It will determine where your pregnancy is located.

It is important to know where the pregnancy is located. Though it is rare, a fertilized egg may sometimes implant or attach someplace outside of the uterus, most likely in the fallopian tube.  This is called an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies can be very dangerous to your health and should be treated immediately by a medical professional.

How does an ultrasound work?

Ultrasound imaging works by sending sound waves into the abdomen through a transmitter. The sound waves return a picture of what’s inside the uterus. It is the most medically accurate way of determining gestational age, or how many weeks you are.

What comes next?

At this point, you will have received a lot of information. You may feel overwhelmed. This is a natural response.  It is important to take some time to process this information.  Depending on your results, you may or may not be scheduled for another ultrasound.  A medical advocate will follow up with you in a couple of days to listen to any concerns you may have or to answer any questions.

No matter what fears or concerns you have about your unexpected pregnancy, Choices is here to support you and help you explore all of your options. Our caring staff will make you comfortable.  Schedule an appointment today.
